FESTIVAL INFORMATION

Concerto Competition:

There are two categories for the concerto competition.
- If you have not yet turned 18 by October 12, 2023, you may compete with David Popper Tarantella, Op.33.
-
If you are 18 or older as of October 12, 2023, you many compete with David Popper Concert Polonaise No. 1, Op. 14.
-
Competitors must be 32 years of age or younger as of October 12, 2023.

Candidates may only win twice in each category, and may not win in consecutive festivals. Winners of the previous festival (2021) are not eligible to apply. Candidates must perform all works from memory. At the competition, works must be performed with piano accompaniment. Candidates must perform with the competition’s pianist and will be assigned rehearsal time during the festival.

Master Classes:

If you would like to be considered as an active participant in one of the master classes during the festival, please be sure to apply online no later than October 1, 2023. Applications received after that date cannot be considered for participation in master classes. To apply, check “yes” where asked and enter the piece(s) you would like to perform so our pianist can prepare for the master class.

Cello Ensembles:

The Festival will host two cello ensembles:
The Advanced Cello Ensemble is geared towards cellists of graduate school, college, and high school age to perform side-by-side with our outstanding faculty members. A select number of advanced younger pre-college students may be allowed to perform with the advanced ensemble. Eligibility will be decided on the basis of teacher recommendations. The ensemble will be conducted by Emilio Colón and will perform at the final Cello Mania Concert.

The Young Cello Ensemble is geared towards students who are at the beginning of their career as cellists, and is directed by Cara Colón. The ensemble will include separate master classes and technique classes during the festival, and will perform at the final Cello Mania Concert.
